Ohio EPA administers a grant program for U.S. EPA, distributing more than $3 million each year to projects proposed by local governments and community organizations. An applicant may seek up to $500,000. The local matching requirements have been reduced to 20% of the project total as cash or in-kind contributions or services. Proposals are due May 14, 2010. This funding cycle runs from October 1, 2010, through September 30, 2011.
Eligible projects include those addressing stream restoration, wetland restoration, innovative storm water demonstrations, inland lake management and restoration, agricultural best management practice projects, acid mine drainage abatement, riparian restoration and wetland area protection and conservation easements. The projects will be evaluated on how the environmental results are to be achieved; how the project fits in with local watershed planning efforts; prior performance; project effectiveness; local commitment; grant administration capabilities; education and outreach activities; and whether the project area\'s existing environmental quality has potential for favorable restoration of the local watershed.
